Volumes - Band Tampa Concert reviews
A Little Underwhelming
The floor level crowd, predominantly female, were rocking out regardless, even though I thought he was a little off his game. Volumes - Band admitted this was his first solo outing since last years tour with his wife, Faith Hill. He respectfully paid homage to his mom, as well as Faith, who was in the audience.
The arena sits 7,000 so it feels intimate. My dissatisfaction may have been predominantly due to the acoustics in general and specifically the lighting & sound board technicians at the Etess Arena lack of finesse. Regardless if they are the Hard Rock technician's or the bands, their part in the show's production broached disrespectful. The decibel output would have easily filled the PNC Art Center's almost 19,000 seat capacity. The first set, up to the first break, was so incredibly loud it hurt. This is country, not hard core rock and roll.
It is a small indoor arena, not a large outdoor rodeo. The sound was tempered down a little thereafter, however, it was still way, way too loud. The lighting technicians need to sit up in the stands to appreciate how blinding the placement, angle, and movement of their lights are to the patrons. Again for the first set, and often thereafter, the stage floor lights as well as the overhead performance lights were shinning directly, and I do mean directly, into the entire audience of the side facing the stage. We were sitting in section 209, row O, which directly faces the stage to the left of center. It was blinding and uncomfortable.
Whoever is responsible, they can do better. At $300 for a pair of tickets I expect better, I expect to enjoy the show without discomfort or remorse for having spent the money for 2 hours of underwhelming entertainment.
